There should be a new interface for entering data value replacements. For example, if you have a column with coded values like "Y","N","S" or 1,2,3 the user should be able to enter replacement values like "Yes","No","Same" without a lot of extra typing or clicking.
The interface should allow you to specify the column(s).

I don't think this feature should be implemented. If you want different string values, you should be creating a new column - either in the database or the equation editor. Here are two example scripts that can be used in the equation editor to replace string values:

var i = "NSY".indexOf(string); return ["No", "Same", "Yes"][i];

Object("N", "No", "S", "Same", "Y", "Yes")[string]

I disagree. I do not think users should be required to create a new column in the equation editor and they would have no access to the database.

We can provide a feature for modifying the data values, but the feature shouldn't be in the binning editor interface. The existing interface for renaming bins lets you specify a sequence of names to be used in the order the bins appear. It's not actually changing the data that generates the bins. The custom bin names never worked correctly for the "All categories" binning definition because when a subset was created, the order of bins no longer corresponded to the order of the data values.

I agree with Rebecca that this is important for our users that are trying to learn to make more advanced visualizations.

As long as there is a simple easy to understand method to rename columns for users (especially with Y/N text).
It cannot be the equation editor, since most users do not understand how to use it.

Something simple like showing the values in another tab such as Alias, to add the alias/title of the values. Not a lot of extra clicking.
The text shown is something people frequently have opinions about.
